Downhill Skier amid Pines

WHO:           Burlington students in grades 5 – 12 (Harwinton Residents must register in Harwinton)

WHAT:         Skiing and snowboarding at discounted rates!
  • Lift passes, group lessons and rental equipment are available.
  • Lesson package includes 5 weekly one hour group lessons for any level skier or
  • New skiers and boarders are required to take lessons.
  • Students not taking lessons must possess a solid knowledge of the sport in order to  
  • Helmets are strongly recommended for ALL group participants.
 
WHEN:  Thursdays, January 2, 9, 16, 23, 30   
TIME:  4-8 pm
                   
Make-up dates will be added for cancellations

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Program notifications/cancellations will be communicated through E-MAIL and Text Notification
  • Due to a statewide shortage of bus drivers, we are unable to provide transportation for this program
  • Parents will be responsible to transport students to and from Ski Sundown
 
CHAPERONES: Chaperones needed!  Chaperones ski or snowboard for free during program, Chaperones are needed for inside the lodge as well.  All chaperones are required to fill out paperwork. This program cannot run without chaperones.
 
REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
1) Register online at myburlingtonrec.com and then print out and mail/drop off waiver/signature forms to the Parks and Recreation office  OR
2) Register in person at the Parks and Recreation office during regular business hours.
 
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 1st.  Late fee of $25 must be paid if received after 11/1/24

   SKI SKILL LEVELS
  1. First time on skis – new to the sport
  2. Novice – Riding chair lift and skiing independently, making wedge turns on beginner terrain. Ready to discover linking turns, changing the size, shape, and rhythm of turns, pole use, skating, and intro to parallel turns.
  3. Intermediate – Skiing in a small wedge or beginning parallel turns on intermediate terrain. Ready to build more confidence by skiing more turn shapes and sizes on more challenging terrain and in different conditions
  4. Advanced – Making consistent parallel turns on advanced terrain and ready to explore all the mountain has to offer by learning the skills and tactics that it takes to ski steeper terrain, moguls, and variable snow conditions.
 
SNOWBOARD SKILL LEVELS
  1. First time on snowboard – new to the sport
  2. Novice – Riding chairlift & snowboarding independently, controlling direction & speed on beginner terrain, ready to discover speed control through heel and toe edge movements, and intro to linking turns.
  3. Intermediate – Exploring intermediate terrain using linked turns to control direction. Ready to learn speed control through turn shape & intro to carving and ground tricks.
  4. Advanced – Making carved turns on advanced terrain. Ready for advanced carving skills, switch riding, moguls and intro to aerials
 
Helmets are strongly recommended for ALL group participants
Forms for purchasing helmets, goggles and ski locks are available for downloading on our website.

Go to the Ski Swap sponsored by Ski Sundown Ski Patrol on Friday 11/1 4-9 pm, Saturday 11/2 10am-8pm and Sunday 11/3 10am-2pm.
